VT Dance Your PhD!

A new program through the Virginia Tech Center for Communicating Science, directed by Rachel Rugh

Have you ever struggled to explain your research to folks outside your field? Do you wish you could communicate about your work in a meaningful and memorable way? We have a solution: VT DANCE YOUR PhD! This unique, fun and sometimes hilarious competition invites doctoral students from all fields to express their research through dance.

Based on Science Magazine's popular contest, the Center for Communicating Science is launching its first annual VT Dance Your Ph.D. Competition! We believe that Virginia Tech has some budding choreographers waiting to explore their talent as transdisciplinary artists. No dance experience is necessary; dance faculty member Rachel Rugh will mentor participants throughout the process of creating your own original dance film.

Participants will work on their projects in spring/summer 2023; all dance films will be shown in an on-campus FILM PREMIERE in October 2023. We'll have food, prizes, audience voting, and a red carpet!
